Barnardo's purpose is to transform the lives of the UK's most vulnerable children through essential services, campaigning and research.
Ever since Barnardo's was founded by Dr Thomas Barnardo over 150 years ago, the charity has worked to realise his dream of a world where no child is turned away. Barnardo's support them, stand up for them and work to bring out the best in every child who needs their help. Barnardo's do this because they believe in children - no matter what their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour.
As one of the UK's leading children's charities, Barnardo's work directly with more than 300,000 children, young people and families. They run 1,060 projects located in local communities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The patron of Barnardo's is HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.
Barnardo's offers preventative and intensive support on a wide range of issues including:
- child sexual exploitation and abuse,
- being in care and leaving care,
- young victims of trafficking and asylum seekers,
- early years help and family support,
- disability inclusion groups,
- school-based mental health support,
- vocational training, and
- fostering and adoption.
Each service is different but all believe that, with the right support at the right time, Barnardo's can turn children's lives around.
